2 killed in Hangu roof collapse as rain continues to lash KP
PESHAWAR: A woman and her minor daughter were killed in a roof collapse incident, as rain and snowfall continued in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
A woman and her daughter were killed in a roof collapse incident in Qazi Pump area in Hangu district. Confirming the incident, the Hangu police said the room of the house of one Hakeem Khan collapsed in Qazi Pump area due to heavy rainfall.As a result, his wife Bismillah Jana, 45, and daughter Javeria, 5, died after getting trapped under the debris.The cops of City Police Station led by Station House Officer Fazal Khan and locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the rubble. They were taken to Shaheed Farid Khan District Hospital in Hangu where doctors pronounced them dead.The police said that the victims belonged to Orakzai district. The heavy rains and snowfall have been continuing in Orakzai district for the last two days, causing damage to a number of houses. The mud-made houses have started leaking, creating problems for the inmates. On the other hand, the residents are braving severe chill in recent days coupled with frequent load-shedding of gas and electricity.
In the provincial capital, the intermittent rain continued throughout the day. The provincial capital received 21-millimeter shower till Wednesday evening. The rain continued with intervals for the third consecutive day causing difficulties to the residents as rainwater accumulated on roads and in streets and drainage in almost all the low-lying areas remained blocked. On University Road a flood-like situation was observed as water flowing on the road caused traffic jams. The same was the situation at Suri Pul Chowk. The rainwater had accumulated on the Mufti Mahmood Flyover as the sewerage system of both sides of the structure got choked for lack of proper cleaning. The pools of water formed there created problems for the motorists. The roads dug along the Bus Rapid Transit caused inconvenience to motorists and commuters as well. The muddy roads made the driving difficult for automobile drivers. Weather experts predicted more rain/thunderstorm (with snowfall over hills) in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at scattered places in Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan and Kohat.
Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country. Kalam recorded 4 inches snowfall and Malam Jabba 3. Temperature in Kalam remained-13°C, Malam Jabba, Bagrote -06°C, Gupis -05°C, Hunza, Skardu, Parachinar -04°C, Astore -03°C.
