Multan lawyers call off strike

MULTAN: The District Bar Association on Saturday ended its strike, but will continue its protest meeting on daily basis against the Daska incident till the conviction of the accused policemen, said DBA president Khalid Ashraf Khan.
Addressing the lawyers, he said that they had ended their strike but it did not mean that they had surrendered to its demand of sacking the Punjab IGP. He said that the Punjab Bar Council would hold a meeting in Lahore today and they were waiting for its decision.
Criticising police brutality, he said that the lawyers were united and the DBA had established a fund for the financial assistance of the deceased lawyers. He said that the lawyers would hold a protest meeting in the bar room from Monday. Earlier on Saturday, the lawyers staged a sit-in at Chowk Kutchery and boycotted the court proceedings. They demanded fair investigation into the murder of two lawyers.
NSP OFFICE-BEARER EXPELLED: The National Seraiki Party (NSP) has expelled its secretary general from the party for violating the discipline.
Talking to journalists here on Saturday, NSP spokesman Amjad Hussain Baloch said that NSP secretary general Akbar Malkani had been expelled from the party. He said that his basic membership had also been cancelled. He said that the NSP had also expelled Malkani’s 13 colleagues from the party, besides cancelling their basic membership.
