ISLAMABAD: Although the law does not allow a government servant or a person working in a public sector department even on a contractual basis to contest election, an employee of Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) is contesting LB election from Ward Kamal Khel, Dhoda, District Kohat.
A letter sent to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by LDDB on May 28 stated: “Abdul Rehman s/o Khan Badsha is an employee of Livestock and Dairy Development Board M/o National Food Security and Research. “It has come to this office’s notice that he is contesting election of councilor in Village Council Kamal Khel Tehsil, District Kohat.”
The signed list by the returning officer of contesting candidates in village council Kamal Khel in local bodies election and pamphlet has also been attached with the letter. The letter further said: “Our department is going to take disciplinary action against him. It is requested that his name may be removed from the list so that he would not be eligible to contest the election.” According to the official record, Abdul Rehman joined LDDB as private secretary on November 19, 2007.
The explanation letter issued to Abdul Rehman by LDDB on May 28 said: “It has been observed that you are not attending the office w.e.f May 22, 2015 to date without any prior approval and intimation to the management of LDDB. It is against the discipline and office decorum.”
It further said, “Therefore, you are directed to report office and explain your position, within three days after the issuance of this letter otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against you”.
