FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) in collaboration with University of California is revising its courses under the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) in Food Security and Agriculture to make them on a par with international standards.
In the first phase, veterinary and engineering courses are being revised for the uplift of the sector.
This was stated by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan during his visit to all faculties.
He said under the CAS, $3 million will be spent on the research through competitive grants aimed at rural and agriculture development as the poverty alleviation was directly linked to the sector. He said quality education, research, strong academia-industry linkages and transformation of knowledge into goods and services are essential to address the issues of common man. He urged scientists to exercise modern measures to increase productivity and fight food insecurity.
He said the UAF was meant for uplift of agriculture sector and rural development with the help of trained manpower, research and outreach programme. He said all-out efforts were not being made to get advantages from tremendous resources of the country.
The VC said population of the country is increasing while its resources are decreasing.
He congratulated the faculty for becoming the first-ever Pakistani university ranked among the top hundred best universities worldwide.
To a question, he said the varsity has emerged as the 85th best university in the subject of agriculture and forestry.
He said the UAF was not only working on the impact factor publication but it is also working on rural and agriculture development.
