FAISALABAD: Commissioner Nasim Nawaz has directed the officers concerned to make and follow the flood control plan in letter and spirit.
He was presiding over a meeting held to review the pre-flood and flood fighting arrangements in Faisalabad Division. The commissioner directed that information regarding the flow of water in the rivers and any flood lying situation should be communicated immediately so that timely rescue operation could be ensured in case of any emergency of flood. He asked the officers of the Irrigation Department for strengthening the rivers and canal banks and said that survey should also be conducted of low-lying areas near rivers. He said that the list of villages should also be prepared those were likely to be affected in case of any level of flood and the people of these villages be kept informed about the situation of flood and flow of water in rivers through the announcements in mosques. The commissioner urged upon the need of well managed and organised measures for flood fighting during the coming monsoon season and said that the concerned departments should fully be prepared for any alarming situation of flood. Irrigation Chief Engineer Hanif Khalid Bhatti gave briefing of the flood fighting plan of the Irrigation Department and said that all measures had been taken for the flood fighting. He said that a control room had also been established in the Irrigation Department and full time monitoring had been ensured to keep vigil eye on the flow of water in rivers.
