Lawyers on Tuesday staged a protest at main Kutchery Chowk against the murder of president and a member of the Daska Bar Association by police and demanded action against the perpetrators.
Members of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Rawalpindi Bench and District Bar Association (DBA) strongly protested against Daska tragedy and offered funeral in absentia at main Kutchery Chowk of their deceased colleagues.
The legal fraternity also observed a ‘sit-in’ at Kutchery Chowk where all kinds of traffic on all sides remained suspended for more than half an hour. Lawyers observed strike on the appeal of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). Black flags are waving outside the bar rooms while resolutions condemning police brutality were also passed by the bar councils. The legal fraternity demanded of the government to bring the killers to justice. The protesters also demanded of the government to suspend the district police officer of Sialkot.
In district courts, Rawalpindi, nearly 2,000 prisoners could not be presented before courts on the day of the hearing of their cases due to ongoing strike by the lawyers. Policemen deployed at courts were directed to wear plain clothes while cops present on entry and exit points of the sessions court have been asked to return to Police Lines. On the directions of Punjab Bar Council (PBC) Vice Chairman Azam Nazir Tarar black flags were hoisted on rooftops of Rawalpindi barroom.
