SWABI: A neck and neck contest is expected at various union councils in the local government elections as new faces, including youth, have posed serious threat to veteran politicians.
The most interesting contest is expected in Saleem Khan union council where district president of Insaf Students Federation Shahzada Fahad is vying for district council seat against
Gulzar Hussain, Akhtar Hussain, Mukharram Taj and Mukhtiar Khan.
Shahzada Fahad has an edge on his rivals due to his education and family background and support of young voters.
Another interesting contest is between the candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for tehsil council seats in Topi Tehsil.
Aslam Khan, who is uncle of PML-N Member Provincial Assembly Shiraz Khan, is one of the experienced politicians in the district. A tough contest would decide the future of Younas Khan of PTI.
In Maneri Payan union council, Maj (r) Fida Hussain joined PTI after resigning from membership of Pakistan People’s Party. Fida had lost elections for PK-31 Swabi in general elections.
Biland Iqbal, uncle of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senior minister Shahram Khan Tarakai and central general secretary of the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan, is contesting election for district council seat in Tarakai union council against ANP’s Fazal Rahim, Jihad Ali of PTI and Jawad Khan of PPP. AJIP has already announced Biland as candidate for the slot of the chairmanship.
