HANGU: The elders and candidates Saturday made a unanimous decision that women voters would not cast their votes in the upcoming local government elections.
Sources said the decision? was made at a jirga held in Thall tehsil, which was attended by local elders, religious scholars and candidates of various parties. They decided not to allow women to cast votes in the May 30 elections and also warned the candidates against buying votes.
Meanwhile, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mufti Janan has said the decision was applicable only to some parts of the Thall tehsil. “I am in favour of women’s participation in voting,” he added.
