GUJRANWALA: An Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team headed by Inspector Rana Aslam on Thursday caught Mubeen, jail doctor, accepting Rs 15,000 as illegal gratification from food supply contractor Mohammad Iqbal on GT Road.
The ACE team, acting under the supervision of Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge Mujtaba-ul-Hassan, recovered the marked currency notes from the possession and detained the accused in the Civil Lines Police Station’s lockup.
The raid was conducted on the complaint of contractor Muhammad Iqbal who stated that he supplied poultry meat to the jail and the accused had demanded Rs 50,000 per supply to approve the stuff as healthy. However, they struck a deal at Rs 15,000 after bargaining. He added that Mubeen had promised to clear even unhealthy meat in return of the payment.
WOMAN CRUSHED TO DEATH: A speedy truck hit an unidentified woman while crossing GT Road in Kamoke city. She was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, while the driver fled the scene.
