GUJRANWALA: Three persons were killed while as many injured during crossfire between two groups at Talwandi Musa Khan on Wednesday.
Mithu Cheema had a rivalry with Khalid Cheema group and both groups had filed petitions against each other in different courts. On the day of the incident, both group members were on their way to the sessions court when they saw each other. In the meantime, both groups started crossfire. As a result, two members of Mithu group, Azam Cheema and Awais Cheema, and Yasir of Khalid Cheema group, were killed on the spot while Ahsan and his nephew Ali Raza of Khalid group and Asghar of Mithu group sustained bullet injuries. The injured were rushed to the DHQ Hospital. Sadar police have registered a case after arresting some members of each group.
2 MURDER CONVICTS TO BE HANGED TODAY: Two murder convicts will be hanged at the District Jail on Thursday (today).
Ejaz, son of Rehmat Ali, had murdered Ghulam Rasool over a money dispute on August 28, 1998, while Amjad Ali, son of Ali Akbar, had murdered Khalil in Kasur on July 5, 1998. The relatives of the murder convicts met with them in the jail on Wednesday.
PROTEST AGAINST POLICE FOR NOT ARRESTING RAPISTS: Relatives of a gang-raped victim on Wednesday staged a demonstration against Noshera Virkan police outside the CPO office.
The protesters chanted slogans against the police for failing to arrest alleged rapist despite being nominated in the FIR. The protesters told that four accused including Fazal-e-Azeem, Sufyan and Babar allegedly abducted the girl on April 12 and allegedly raped her for one month. They alleged that the police were reluctant to arrest the alleged rapists. Later, police high ups met the protesters and assured them that the accused would be arrested soon. At this, the protesters dispersed.
