SCCI chief decries GIDC Bill 2015

SIALKOT: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Fazal Jilani Tuesday expressed concern over the government plan to pass the controversial Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) Bill 2015.
In a statement, he said the previous government had also passed the GIDC in the Finance Bill 2011 that was challenged in various courts and all the chambers of commerce across the country had also rejected it but the government promulgated an ordinance in September 2014 with an objective to overrule the stay granted by the High Courts in this regard.
The SCCI president said despite the strong opposition from the industrial sector across the country, such policies were being carried on which would end up destabilizing the industry.
Jilani urged the government to refrain from devising policies that could be harmful for industries.
He appealed to the Prime Minister and the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources to withdraw the Bill.
