GHOTKI: Two brothers, 16-year- old Fida Hussain and nine-year- old Wakeel lost their lives when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in village Saifal Kolachi some 2.5 kilometres from here on Friday.
The sons of police constable Ghulam Nabi Kolachi found the device on their way to Madrassa and tried to play with it, misconceiving it as a toy.The explosion was so severe that Fida, a student of ninth class at DC School, Ghotki, died on the spot while his brother succumbed to injuries on way to Sukkur while being taken for treatment.
The personnel of police, special branch and bomb disposal squad reached the site and started investigations.Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghotki, Saqib Sultan, talking to the media, stated that it was an improvised device of one kilogramme.
He said that a committee comprising senior police officers would investigate the incident.SSP and Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Tahir Wattoo, handed over Rs50,000 and Rs35,000 respectively as immediate compensation to the bereaved father.
