OKARA: A dacoit was shot dead mistakenly by his own accomplices during an encounter with police on late Tuesday night.
As details, three gangsters started looting motorists on a road near Chak Lahorianwala. On receiving information, Chuchak Police Station SHO Inspector Muhammad Yousuf reached the scene with a police team. On seeing police, the dacoits entered the nearby fields and started indiscriminate firing which was retaliated. The encounter also forced DPO Faisal Rana, who had arranged a farewell dinner for outgoing SP Investigation Dr Farrukh at his office, to reach the spot.
Meanwhile, two dacoits managed to flee the scene while taking advantage of darkness and the standing crops but not before an accomplice being killed by their own bullets.
Later announcements were made through the local mosques and some locals identified the dead as Yousuf Tahir alias Yousfi 2 Chak Pattoki, Kasur. He was wanted by various police stations of Kasur district in various cases.
