Candidate for LG election shot dead in Haripur

HARIPUR: A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the district council seat in the upcoming local government (LG) election was shot dead outside his election office here early Friday.
According to the police, Qazi Sajjad Qureshi, President of Tehsil chapter of PML-N and candidate for district council from union council Sera-e-Saleh, was standing outside his election office at around 12:15am when unknown assailant opened fire at him with sophisticate weapon injuring him seriously.
“The local people took him to the Women and Children Hospital, but he succumbed to injuries,” said an officer at the police station. The police registered the case against the unknown attacker who managed to flee the scene. His family nominated nobody in the first information report as they have no enmity.
Adil Shehzad Khan Tareen an office-bearer of the PML-N Youth Wing condemned the assassination of Qazi Sajjad and added he was a popular figure and was expected to win the election. A former minister for higher education, Qazi Muhammad Asad and provincial president PML-N Pir Sabir Shah also condemned the killing of the Qazi Sajjad and asked the police to arrest the killers forthwith.
