Dacoit killed in encounter with police, villagers

OKARA: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with police and villagers at Maddha Phatak near Basirpur on Tuesday.
Jalal Din was on his way when some dacoits snatched Rs 25,000 from him. The dacoits also shot at and injured him on resistance. Hearing the gunshots, the villagers rushed to the spot. In the meantime, police on information also reached there. On seeing police and villagers, the dacoits opened fire on them. Police and villagers also retaliated. As a result, a dacoit was killed while the others fled. The killed dacoit was later identified as Javed alias Jeda of Assu Gang. Basirpur police have registered a case. Meanwhile, the injured man was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.
