Tevta fined for not submitting
comments on civil servants appeals

MULTAN: Punjab Services Tribunal (PST) Judge Hafeezullah Khan has imposed Rs12,000 fine on the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) authorities over their failure to submit para-wise comments into the appeals, filed by eight civil servants here on Tuesday, tribunal sources said.
Those fined Rs4000 each included Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaisar Sheikh, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and Tevta as an institution for not submitting detailed reply to the PST. The case was adjourned for Sept 9 as the final date for submission of replies.
Earlier, Tevta COO Jawad Ahmed Qureshi had convicted eight civil servants working under Tevta on deputation for dereliction of duties. The COO forfeited the services of four servants including Muhammad Usman, Atta Muhammad, Nisar Ahmed and Khalid Saeed. Two servants, Riaz Hussain and Muhammad Ramazan, were removed from service. Two retired servants Shujauddin and Khalil Ahmed were convicted with recovery.
All the eight civil servants filed their petitions before the PST and the tribunal sought detailed reply from Tevta authorities.
The PST also ordered closing the right of defence to respondents on failing to furnish para-wise comments.

Ginners concerned over shifting of
sugar mills to cotton belt area

MULTAN: Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association has protested against shifting of sugar mills to cotton belt, terming it detrimental to cotton economy and urged the government to suspend establishment of sugar mills in the cotton belt.
The PCGA has demanded the government take suo moto action of the unlawful shifting and impose ban on the shifting of sugar mills to southern Punjab, which had been declared as the cotton belt and take effective measures for the protection of white gold (cotton) economy and to promote the export of textile products.
Talking to journalists, PCGA Chairman Haji Hafeez Anwar Tuesday said cotton growers had produced 14.87 million bales of cotton and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir and Minister of Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi should impose a ban on the shifting of sugar mills to south Punjab, as the government had decided not to allow new sugar mills in the core cotton areas.
He said shifting of sugar mills in Alipur and Jatoi sub-division in Muzaffargarh district and Rahimyar Khan district would change the cropping pattern.
