KARACHI: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on Thursday said that the first-ever international standard artificial turf would be installed in Khanewal.
FIFA Consultant Eric Harrison from United Kingdom visited Khanewal Goal-Project and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the project.
“The first ever artificial turf in Pakistan will be installed in Khanewal and it is an ideal venue for this,” a PFF spokesman said while quoting Harrison. “Installation will be completed by December 2015 and one of FIFA’s registered contractors will be engaged to finish this project,” he said.
The Khanewal Goal Project consists of international standard board and lodging facilities for 225 players and officials, one international standard pitch, one practice pitch, a conference room and staff offices.
“It is expected to be completed and become operational in early 2016,” the PFF official said.
There is a proposal to build a swimming pool, a gymnasium and install floodlights at the venue in the next phase.
“This will not only serve as an epicenter of football development for Khanewal but will be a game changer for the whole country as Khanewal is located in the centre of Pakistan,” he said.
