HYDERABAD: A wanted criminal carrying head money of Rs1 million and nominated in at least 31 FIRs in the police stations of various districts has been killed in an encounter with the police in the limits of Hatri police station here on Wednesday.
The in-charge CIA police, Aslam Langha, while addressing a press conference, said the wanted criminal Mohammad Ali Hothipoto was killed in an exchange of fire while his three accomplices, including Iqbal Brohi, Mitho Machi and Mastu Ghalo, managed to escape.
Langha said that the police tried to stop the car in which four suspects were travelling near Chang Maur area but the car sped away. The mobile police chased the car and cornered the inmates after a brief chase but they opened fire on the police, ensuing an exchange of fire that continued for 30 minutes, he added.
Langha said that Hothipoto sustained multiple gunshots during the encounter and died in the Civil Hospital.The CIA in-charge claimed that Hothipoto was also involved in the kidnapping of the son of former president of Sindh High Court Bar Association, Hyderabad chapter, Nisar Durrani, as well as the official of National Highway Authority Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh.
He was also allegedly part of the group which kidnapped a son and nephew of Chief Minister Sindh’s Adviser Suhrab Mari and the son of Dr Shamsuddin Shaikh from Nawabshah, he added. Langha stated that the IGP Sindh Police had announced a reward of Rs500,000 for the police team.
