DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A soldier was killed and five others, including a captain, sustained injuries in two separate attacks on the security forces convoys in the district, sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said that a convoy of the security forces was heading to Kulachi tehsil from Atala when it was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED). A soldier identified as Subedar Khalid was killed on the spot while the other soldiers remained unhurt.
Another convoy of the security forces was moving in Luni area near the Frontier Region (FR) Dera Ismail Khan Monday evening when an IED planted on the roadside exploded. Five soldiers, including an Army captain sustained injuries in the blast. The identity of the injured soldiers could not be ascertained as they were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks on the security forces so far.Meanwhile, television channels reported that the authorities had imposed a curfew in Kulachi tehsil after the attack on the security forces convoy.
The personnel of the security forces and the law-enforcement agencies usually start search operations after such incidents in a bid to track down the attackers. Two attacks on the security forces convoys in one day in the same district is something unusual, even if it happened in Dera Ismail Khan which is located close to the boundary with South Waziristan and the FR Dera Ismail Khan and FR Tank.
APP adds from Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on security vehicles in Dera Ismail Khan.Extending condolences to the family of martyred and injured personnel, the prime minister said such acts cannot weaken the government’s resolve in eradicating the menace of terrorism.
