Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said MQM leader Altaf Husain’s demand for separate Karachi province, and Sindh One, and Sindh Two, was a reaction to the Rangers’ raid on party headquarters 90 and the arrests of the wanted criminals in accordance with the decision of the establishment and government.
Addressing a meeting of the heads of offices of the JI on Tuesday, he said the creation of provinces on the basis of ethnicity, sectarianism or nationalities would lead to chaos. He said there was no harm in creating new provinces on administrative grounds in accordance with the constitution if there was a consensus in this respect. He said that in that case, the matter would not end with the division of Sindh alone as several other units could crop up as there was already a demand for Saraiki and Hazara provinces besides from the Pushtoon belt.
However, he said raising such an issue without consensus would be disastrous for the national unity. He said the enemies of Islam and Pakistan wanted to disintegrate the country by fanning parochial feelings similar to the separation of East Pakistan in 1971 and the political leadership should foil such designs through prudence. Sirajul Haq said the JI wanted an end to the status quo and was struggling for the rights of the masses. He said the masses too should stop feeding the serpents by voting for the corrupt and self-centered politicians and elect those sincerely fighting for their rights.
The JI chief said if those ruling the country for the last 68 years had been faithful to the country’s ideology, the nation would have not been stood divided in numerous groups today. He said the rulers’ failure to implement the country’s constitution had caused disappointment among people. Widespread nepotism of rulers has given a death blow to the merit and the kith and kin of the corrupt rulers are holding the key positions in every sector.
Sirajul Haq said the terrorism was not a product of this country. Terrorism and lawlessness are the result of Pervez Musharraf’s policies and the country and the nation were suffering for that. He said the terrorism had been imported and made a means of earnings. However, he said the government was strong enough to end terrorism. He said the JI wanted the federal and provincial governments to complete their terms so that the masses could not be disillusioned about their catchy slogans and promises and the next elections could be proved the Day of Reckoning for rulers.
