RAWALPINDI: An accountability court in Rawalpindi on Wednesday acquitted the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Rehman Malik in two references of corruption. The case was heard by Accountability Court, Rawalpindi Judge Sohail Nasir.
Rehman Malik’s lawyer adopted the stance that the suspects other than Rehman Malik had been acquitted whereas the reference made against his client was malicious. The court, while adjourning the hearing, declared Malik’s sentence announced in his absence as unlawful and acquitted him in two references whereas the other suspect former Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sajjad Haider was issued a summon.
Rehman Malik was accused of taking a car as bribe during FIA deployments and corruption of millions of rupees. Malik, speaking to media persons after the hearing, claimed that he was being pressurised into becoming an approver in the murder case of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto through these references.
