Torrential rain and hailstorm accompanied by strong winds hit several parts of the Mardan district on April 15 and damaged standing crops – especially wheat. The wheat crop affected by the hailstorm was at an advanced stage of ripening. The natural calamity caused losses of millions of rupees to the farmers who are mostly poor. The badly-hit areas were Shamozai, Matta, Ghundo, Badar, Palo, Dheri, Likpani, etc.
In view of the losses, the KP government is requested to declare the affected areas as calamity hit and conduct a survey to estimate the losses of the farmers so that they can be financially compensated, in addition to deferring various tax levy on the affected farmers.
