OKARA: Sardar Tariq Masud Advocate, president of District Bar Association Bagh, on Saturday demanded withdrawing the powers of appointing and posting of judges from the related ministry in AJK and delegating the same to the legislative assembly and judiciary.
He was addressing senior lawyers and the District Bar Association Okara Executive Committee members. He visited the bar along with a 20-member delegation comprising lawyers, political and social workers.
Tariq said the Ministry for Kashmir Affairs and the Kashmir Council did not deliver any benefit to the people of the state. He said the unjustified amendments made in Azad Kashmir Act 1974 should be withdrawn and evolved as benefactor of the Kashmiri people.
He demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the limited income resources of the state should be directly handed over to the AJK government without any interference by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and the Kashmir Council.
He also demanded the share in Mangla Dam royalty and representation for AJK in the National Finance Commission (NFC) like other provinces of Pakistan. Earlier, District Bar Association Okara President Chaudhry Aslam Javed, General Secretary Rao Abid Mushtaq, former presidents Sheikh Najam-us-Saqib and Rai Muhammad Shafi Kharal, Mian Sajjad Wattoo, Sardar Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Mumtaz Sial and Rai Zulfiqar warmly welcomed the visitors.
