This refers to the news report, ‘Man shoots dead fiancée, nine others in Charsadda’ (April 6). The massacre has shocked the nation and traumatised the local people. The tragic incident has spread fear in the village. It was one of the most ruthless killings in the province. Were all these people – including four young brothers and four young sisters – culprits? The answer is definitely no.
According to the report, the accused had also killed his parents and two young brothers a few months ago but was roaming freely in the area. Is it strange that a terrorist can be arrested in Tirah, Waziristan and Bajaur but a murderer cannot in Charsadda? The reason for the killings was stated to be a dispute over a piece of land. We find similar incidents in the fortuneless province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa every day but unfortunately we have never thought of seeking a solution to these ills. There are many reasons for such inhuman acts but at the top is illiteracy.
