HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police busted 103 gangs of alleged criminals involved in a range of crimes including kidnappings, extortion, robberies, vehicle snatching, gambling and sale of moonshine liquor, among other crimes.
Police spokesman Mazhar Shani informed here Tuesday that during last four months at least 23 suspected criminals have been killed and 102 injured in various police encounters. As many as 1,591 suspects and absconders including 306 suspected street criminals, 670 thieves, 254 absconders, 164 gamblers, 13 wanted criminals, 20 vehicle lifters, 16 mobiles snatchers and six extortion seekers, among others had been arrested, he added.
A total of 277 pistols, 24 repeaters, 14 revolvers, nine shotguns, seven Kalashnikovs, five rifles, thousands of rounds, 120 kilograms hashish and thousands of litres of moonshine liquor had been recovered, he said. SSP Hyderabad, Irfan Baloch acknowledged the support and cooperation of the citizens behind the success of the police. He said the citizens informed the police including himself about various crimes and criminals through letters, SMS and phone calls, urging them to take action.
