Cool and calm Eid in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi: The population in town witnessed Eid–ul-Fitr in peace as no bigger untoward incident was reported here during Eid holidays while the environment of town remained cool and calm and majority of roads received thin traffic load particularly on the first and second day of Eid.
On the first and second day of Eid, there remained a thin traffic even on Benazir Bhutto Road, much notorious for prolonged traffic jams. On ‘chand raat’, the night between Friday and Saturday, almost all markets in city and cantonment areas along with those located in relatively smaller localities of town remained open till ‘Fajar’ prayers however no traffic jams were reported from anywhere in the city.
Almost all the graveyards in town started receiving heavy influx of people after ‘Fajr’ prayers on the first day of Eid who turned up there to offer ‘fateha’ on the graves of their dear and near ones.
After Eid prayers, however, the city started giving a deserted look as most of the main markets in town were not operating on Eid days. Almost all roads including those leading to main markets including Raja Bazaar, Tench Bhatta, Saddar and Commercial Market were giving empty look particularly before evening on the first and second day of Eid.
The weather, however, remained pleasant on Eid days because of rainfall but it did not convince majority of people to come out before evening. The parks in town, however, remained crowded particularly on the second day of Eid. Majority of local restaurants, pan shops, Bar B Q and fast food points did not operate on the first day of Eid though on second day, the food outlets received customers till late in the night.
