LAHORE: Lahorites celebrated Eidul Fitr with traditional festivity as a large number of citizens thronged public parks and other recreational places including Lahore Zoo, cinemas, Lahore Fort, etc. during Eid holidays.

Heavy rain on early morning on Eid ended humidity and hotness and people enjoyed the weather by going recreational places. Children were seen purchasing toys and playing in streets while adults were seen greeting their friends. Eid festivity started with the first day of Eid on Saturday when citizens started visiting public parks and other recreational places with their friends and families. Lahore Zoo, Model Town Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Nawaz Sharif Park, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Jallo Park, Safari Park, Racecourse Park, Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens were thronged with picnickers.

There was a great rush of people at Lahore Zoo and Safari Park where almost 80,000 people visited during the last two days of Eid. The rush can be gauged from the fact that a large number of people were unable to find a room to even park their motorcycles.

All entrances of Lahore Zoo and roads leading to Safari Park were packed with traffic and wardens were busy controlling traffic. Zoo officials said they earned around Rs 1.5 million in first two days of Eid holidays.

Similarly, Lahore Safari Park on Raiwind Road is also one of the busiest recreational places in the provincial capital. Long queues of citizens were seen outside lion and tiger safari areas and people had to wait for hours to get in. Birds’ arena attracted a large number of visitors, especially families with children.

Greater Iqbal Park was also jam packed as thousands of citizens thronged to see the newly-inaugurated National History Museum and light show at the park. Following the rush of visitors, Azadi Chowk was jam packed till Data Darbar and traffic wardens failed to restore traffic till late at night.

Cinemas and kids play lands having electronic swings, video games and other joy rides were also jam packed. Ice cream parlors, fast food restaurants, coffee shops and other eating spots witnessed extraordinary rush of people during the next two days of Eid holidays.

Many people invited their families and friends to their homes for parties in which traditional Lahori dish and sweets, including Kheer, Siwainyan, Kebabs, BBQ, mutton chops, Tikka Boti, Malai Boti, Biryani, Pulao, Quorma, etc. were served. Mall Road, MM Alam Road, Fortress Stadium and many other city areas witnessed traffic jams.
