Concern over non-publishing of Tevta textbooks

MULTAN: The Punjab Association of Instructors has expressed concern over non-publishing of textbooks for the vocational training institutes by the Tevta Development Cell.
In an application to the Technical Education and Vocational Authority management on Thursday, PAI Punjab president Nazar Abbas Khokhar said that the Tevta had not published textbooks for a long time. He said that the Tevta officials had uploaded books on internet instead of publishing them. He said that each book consisted of at least 100 pages. The books, which were available for 50-70 in the market, are now costing Rs 400-500 to the students as the internet cafés charge Rs 5 per page, he added. He said that the Tevta chief operating officer in a meeting with the PAI at the Tevta Secretariat had promised to ensure availability of textbooks at low rate, but the promise could not be materialised so far. He said that the students and their parents were bound to pay for the alleged slackness of the Tevta authorities.
PAI president Nazar Abbas Khokhar said that several vocational training institutes had been facing shortage of the teaching staff in the province. He said that the Tevta on the orders of the CM had launched the pilot project of imparting training to the prisoners. In the initial stage, four courses were launched in Multan and Lahore central jails. Later, the Tevta ended the project without conducting examination of those inmates, who had taken admission to the classes, he added. He demanded the Tevta high-ups call a meeting to resolve the issues.
