HANGU: The elders of Ferozkhel tribe on Thursday accused the former Member National Assembly (MNA) Syed Jawad Hussain of secretly leasing out the tribe’s land in Orakzai Agency.

They demanded cancellation of the lease and action against those involved in the scam.

The members of the Ferozkhel tribe gathered outside the Hangu Press Club and staged protest against the former legislator.

Later speaking at a press conference, Malik Musanif Khan, Malik Mir Hassan Shah and others alleged that the ex-lawmaker had leased out eight square kilometres and 8,000 acres of land belonging to the Ferozkhel tribe in lower parts of Orakzai Agency in 2015.

They accused Syed Jawad Hussain of tricking some of their family members and obtaining their signatures on a blank paper to lease out the land secretly. They termed the deal illegal and demanded its cancellation.

The tribal elders said they came to know about the lease when they started coal mining on the land in question. “The former lawmaker came and stopped us from mining the land. He showed us the lease documents and barred us from digging the land,” said one of the elders.

They said they brought the issue into the notice of the political administration and Commissioner of Kohat, but to no avail.

They threatened to stage a protest sit-in at the Governor’s House in Peshawar if the lease was not cancelled and the land returned to the real owners.
