ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday dismissed the statement of National Security Committee (NSC) issued on Monday, and termed it “wrong, painful and frightening” for him.

The statement is not based on truth and now it is right time that the nation gets to know who is responsible for the plight of the country, who founded terrorism in Pakistan and who is responsible for the country’s isolation.

He reiterated his demand for a national commission to ascertain the truth as to who was responsible for this state of affairs and who made efforts to protect Pakistan. The commission should be tasked to ascertain that who is a patriot and who is a traitor.

Nawaz rejected the NSC statement, as it is based on mis-perception. “I am not just an ordinary citizen but three-time elected prime minister and privy to many things,” he added. Nawaz said earlier when he said the same thing in the National Security Committee meeting, it was made 'Dawn Leaks'. He confessed that his recent statement was exactly the same that he said earlier in the NSC meeting.

“In that meeting also, I asked for putting our own house in order first. That’s the reason, the world is not ready to buy our narrative,” Nawaz added. “We are heading towards isolation; and in reality we have already been isolated,” he added. It was such a beautiful country and what has been made of it. This is so painful and unfortunate, he added.

To a question that during his tenure in office, which countries were more friendly towards Pakistan, Nawaz said “ask Khwaja Asif and prime ministers and presidents of other countries what sentiments they had about us. We were heading towards a good start, but they impeded the process,” he added.

Nawaz was talking to the media inside and outside accountability court. During Tuesday’s hearing, former PML-N senator Nehal Hashmi also accompanied Nawaz Sharif. About his sentence, Hashmi said that he regretted his statement. He was asked to tender an apology, but then sentence of one month imprisonment was awarded to him. Hashmi refused to make any further comment, but said: "They are kings, and they can do whatever they want." Hashmi said he loved and supported his Quaid Nawaz Sharif. Online adds: Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz said here on Tuesday “We should not have punished Pervaiz Rashid over the DawnLeaks controversy”.

The former PM’s daughter was getting seated in her car outside the accountability court when reporters asked her why Pervaiz Rashid was punished if Dawn’s story was true. “We should not have done that,” she replied. Nawaz Sharif had removed Pervaiz Rashid as information minister after his name came up in the DawnLeaks controversy.
