World Cup hero Mansoor buried

KARACHI: Pakistan’s hero of World Cup 1994 Olympian Mansoor Ahmed, who had passed away on Saturday after a protracted heart ailment, was buried in a Defence graveyard on Sunday. A large member of his friends and hockey players and officials attended his funeral prayers held at Sultan Mosque in DHA.

PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed came from Islamabad to attend the funeral prayers. Prominent among those present at the funeral were Islahuddin, Hasan Sardar, Qamar Ibrahim, Kamran Ashraf, Muhammad Anees and Asif Khan.

Shahbaz, who was the captain of the 1994 World Cup winning team, said all sports lovers were sad as their hero had died. He said that Mansoor was one of the greatest goalkeepers of his time and had played a role in numerous victories of Pakistan. “Despite his illness he was keen to coach and train our future goalkeepers because we direly need quality goalkeepers,” he added.
