IUB students stage demo against fee increase

BAHAWALPUR: Hundreds of the Islamia University Bahawalpur students staged a demonstration against increase in fees and ‘illegal’ appointment of the chief security officer at DPO Office Chowk on Thursday.
The protesting students also blocked the road by stopping the university buses to register their protest against the recent increase in university fees and illegal appointment of Director Sports Amjad Warraich as the chief security officer.
The students were chanting slogans against IUB Vice-Chancellor Dr Qaisar Mushtaq and Chief Security Officer Amjad Warraich. The protesting students were also dancing to the drum beats.
When contacted, the Islamia University Bahawalpur spokesman said that the banned students again took the law and order in their hands, threatened the students and hijacked the university buses. He said that these were the same handful students, who had blocked the Baghdadul Jadeed Campus main gate on March 18 for no reasons. The propaganda by these students about fee increase was totally wrong and baseless as the university had not increased fee of any department.
The IUB spokesman said that these few students wanted to sabotage the peaceful campus environment by using violent means, which would not be tolerated at any cost.
