13 killed in Abbottabad road accidents
ABBOTTABAD: At least 13 persons were killed in two separate accidents in the district on Thursday. Ten persons were killed and seven others injured when an Abbottabad-bound truck loaded with wheat bags overturned and fell on a passenger van at a turn near Sabzi Mandi.
“The driver failed to control the vehicle while negotiating a turn and the vehicle overturned and fell on a van,” said an eyewitness.
The bodies of the victims were removed from the wreckage of the van after hectic efforts by the rescue personnel of 1122, police and locals. The vehicle was on its way to Mansehra from Rawalpindi
Those killed included Shams Bibi, Danish Irfan, M. Niaz, Shaukat, Jamshid, Muhammad Nazir, Baidar Bakht. The identity of three persons could not be ascertained. The injured were identified as Abdul Basit, Sardar Junaid, Ibadullah, Ahmed Nawaz, M. Israel, Jameela Bibi and M.Baber Sherwan.
Three injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Abbottabad, and three others were shifted to the Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex.
Condition of three was stated to be critical as they had received head injuries. One kid and one woman remained miraculously unhurt in the accident.
Meanwhile, in another accident, three persons including, husband and wife, were killed when a car fell into a ditch on Abbottabad-Nathiagali road on Thursday.
Eyewitness said the driver parked the vehicle on the roadside in at Ghey area and was checking some fault when it fell into the ditch. As a result, one Ghulam Murtaza, his wife Zakheera Bibi and Mst Zubaida Bibi were killed.
