Malakand farmers stage sit-in in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: The farmers from Malakand division on Tuesday staged a sit-in outside the building of provincial assembly for implementing the call attention notice regarding the right of land ownership in Malakand division.
The farmers from Malakand division were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. The speakers said thousands of peasants were cultivating the lands in the hilly areas of Malakand for decades.
They claimed that the farmers cultivating these lands were real owners, but lamented that these lands were mention as property of forest department. The speakers asked for implementing the call attention motion and to declare these lands as property of the farmers who were cultivating these lands. They threatened to launch a protest campaign if their demands were not met.
