SWABI: The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Sherpao said on Sunday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had failed to deliver. He was addressing a public gathering here which was attended by QWP workers from across the district and other KP areas. It marked the launching of the election campaign in the district. He said the ruling party in KP claimed to make a new KP but it could not bring any change in the lives of people. The QWP chief said the PTI relied only on lip-service, and had done nothing on the ground for the welfare of the people. He said the PTI chief Imran Khan has pushed the Pakhtuns back.
Sherpao said the budget presented by the federal government was for Punjab only and there was nothing for KP, the province that has suffered to the core in the war on terror. He said the federal budget was a political one.
He said the Pakhtuns had rendered sacrifices for the country but unfortunately their rights had been denied by the federal government. The QWP chief described the budget estimates as eyewash and said the government had failed to provide any relief to the masses. He said that the government should have announced major initiatives to control energy crisis and prices of petroleum and other commodities.
Sherpao said that smaller provinces, particularly KP, were ignored in the fiscal plan. He added that KP and tribal areas had been overlooked as no allocation was made to compensate the militancy-affected people. The QWP chief lamented that the longstanding issues of Pakhtuns had been put on the backburner which had intensified their sense of deprivation. He said that issues such as loadshedding, merger of Fata-KP, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, rehabilitation, etc. had been ignored, which aggravated their condition.
Sherpao asked the federal government not to delay the merger of Fata with KP. He said that Pakhtuns were the second largest population of the country who had rendered numerous sacrifices in the war on terror but the federal government neither compensated them nor rehabilitated them properly.
Sikandar Sherpao, provincial president of the party, Masood Jabar, district chairman of the QWP, and other leaders also spoke on the occasion. It may be mentioned here that the party MPA Abdul Karim was conspicuous by his absence from the gathering.
