Reports reveal that poverty-stricken parents from the rural belt of Pakistan are compelled to sell their children to make ends meet. Some willingly give the hand of their daughters in marriage to men who are, at times, thrice their age in exchange for a meagre amount of money. This is the level of poverty across the country. This practice has been billed as one of the most lucrative forms of organised crimes in rural areas. Thousands of ill-fated girls who fall victim to these practices suffer in silence.
Is there anyone who can take notice of this form of organised crime against girls? Is there anything that can shake the conscience of the legislature and goad them to strictly enforce laws that can protect children from such practices? Steps should be taken to protect the future of girls and prevent them from falling prey to such unjust activities.
