MULTAN: PPP stalwarts Dr Safdar Abbasi and Naheed Khan have said that Karachi is the country’s economic hub where peace is possible only if MQM chief Altaf Hussain makes a confessional statement that he had committed blunders and established a militant wing in his party to strengthen his politics.
Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Saturday, they said that this was the only safe exit for the MQM leadership otherwise they would have to face a ruthless operation. They appealed to the political workers to play their role in filling the leadership vacuum and making the political parties more democratic. They asked PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto isolate himself from his father Asif Ali Zardari politics and follow his mother Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and grandfather Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s politics for the survival of his politics. They said that Asif Zardari was responsible for the PPP decline and he must keep himself away from the party.
Dr Safdar Abbasi said that the Zardari-led PPP had played a key role in shelving the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto murder case during its five-year rule. He said that Benazir was a visionary leader and after her murder, there was a leadership crisis in the country. Unfortunately, Pakistan did not have a leader to intact all the four provinces at the crucial juncture as Benazir Bhutto was the only symbol of federation and chain of all the four provinces, he added. He said that the PML-N represented Punjab, PPP Sindh and PTI KP while nationalists were representing Balochistan. He said that the country was facing four key challenges - terrorism, fanaticism, sectarianism and fight among mafia groups in Karachi. Supporting operations in North Waziristan and Karachi, Dr Safdar Abbasi said that the operation against criminals and mafias should be continued without any discrimination.
Speaking on the occasion, Naheed Khan said that the PPP workers were the real owners of the party. She said that Bilawal was the son of Shaheed Benazir but he should not follow the political style of his father. Naheed Khan said that if Bilawal needed their support they were ready to support him, but he needed to purge the party of opportunists. She said that the workers did not demand jobs but self-respect from the leadership. Earlier, Dr Safdar Abbasi and Naheed Khan visited the residences of old PPP workers. They visited the house of PPP founder worker Malik Sajjad and offered Fateha on the death of his father. They also condoled with PPP worker Kanwar Zahid on the death of his brother’s wife. Senior PPP workers Rana Yousaf, Hashim Khan Babar, Shamim Qureshi, Sheikh Mehmood, Sajid Khan and others were also present.
