DCO ‘bows down’ to lawyer’s pressure

JHANG: Bowing to the pressure of a lawyer, the district coordination officer has handed over control of the PRCS Hospital to him.
The DCO being the PRCS district chairman on Friday issued notifications bearing numbers 544/HC (Coord), 953/HC (Coord) and 119/Admn for handing over the control of the hospital and accounts with power to utilise Rs 2 million to the lawyer.
On March 14, the PRCS district secretary came to the court of Judge Malik Muhammad Iqbal to defend a case, which was filed by the lawyer to get control of the hospital as representative of the DCO, who was also the PRCS district chairman. When the PRCS official came out from the court, the lawyer along with his clerks allegedly thrashed and detained him in his chamber. Later, the PRCS official was released on the intervention of DBA president Ali Raza and senior lawyers. Resultantly, the ADC and other senior officials contacted some DBA members, who were close to the district administration to end the row.
Some weeks ago, the lawyer had approached the district administration and offered financial assistance to the hospital. He managed to obtain a letter from the district administration for the purpose, but instead visited the PRCS office to take over the control of the hospital and threatened the doctors and other staff. After the refusal, he along with some people placed on the Fourth Schedule tried to pressurise the PRCS administration. But due to his attitude and political association, the said offer letter was withdrawn.
When contacted, PRCS district secretary Riaz Javed refused to comment on the issue, saying that he was duty bound to obey the DCO orders. When contacted, ADC Babar Bashir and DCO Nadir Chattha did not attend phone calls despite repeated attempts.
However, the scribe visited the hospital where a nameplate of the lawyer was showing that the hospital control was entrusted to him.
