KARACHI: Gold Bridge Media caused an upset by routing Omar Associates by six wickets in the latest match of the Southern Zone matches in the National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2017-18, here at the Naya Nazimabad Ground the other day.

According to the information shared by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), former champions Omar Associates have met the same fate in the Southern Zone as the fancied trio of Amar Cables, Golden Cables and Turk Plasts in the Northern Zone.

Imran Javed’s whirlwind century was not enough to save Omar Associates from a defeat against Gold Bridge Media, who were powered by opener Kamran Hussain who secured the Man of the Match award.

Omar Associates lost their last seven wickets for 35 runs to be bowled out for 226 in 25 overs. They were derailed by the spin duo of Muhammad Ali (3-29) and Zulfiqar Lehri (2-33) after Imran Javed had blasted 10 sixes and three fours in his 107 off 69 balls. Opener Sajid Ali scored a sedate 41 off 38 balls.

Gold Bridge Media lost opener Irfan Khan for a duck in the first over but his partner Kamran Hussain, who whacked seven sixes and six fours in 49-ball 84, and Mati-ur-Rahman, coming in at number three, made a breezy 25 off 12 balls, belted the bowlers.

The momentum was sustained by Saad Shah, who clobbered four sixes and seven fours in his 43-ball 64, and the undefeated pair of Zulfiqar Lehri (22 off 14 balls) and Muhammad Ali (26 off 18 balls) finished it off in style as the winning boundary came with eight deliveries to spare.
