OKARA: Thousands of male and female tenants of Okara Military Farms, AMP Kulyana State, Renala Khurd State, Byle Ganj and Probinabad Army Stud Centre Depalpur on Wednesday staged a demonstration against the arrest of AMP-RKS president Nadeem Ashraf and AMP-KS president Malik Saleem Jhakhar.
The protesters came on tractor-trolleys and staged a sit-in at the District Complex. The male tenants staged a sit-in outside the DPO Office and female tenants outside the DPO House. The protesters chanted slogans against the arrest of their leaders. Speaking on the occasion, AMP Punjab general secretary Mehr Abdus Sattar said that the AMP members protested outside the Sahiwal RPO Office but could not get justice. He warned that if their demands were not met, the AMP tenants would reach Lahore to stage a protest against the Okara police and the government on March 25. The other leaders including Shabbir Sajid, Khushi Muhammad, Ch Liaqat Ali, Noor Nabi, Hafiz Jabbar and Shafiq Chaudhry alleged that the district police were harassing the tenants by registering false cases against them and arresting them on false charges. Meanwhile, the DPO Office issued a press release in which it was determined that investigation against the nabbed leaders and other tenants would be conducted on merit. However, if the AMP leaders and tenants were not satisfied on the process they could get shift their investigation anywhere in the district or whole of the Punjab province, it added. The protest of the tenants was continued till the filing of this report.
