CHITRAL: Two more hydel power projects were inaugurated in Booni and Mastuj on Wednesday.A two megawatt power station was inaugurated at the Chitral town a day earlier.
Thousands of people, including a large number of women, gathered at the inauguration ceremonies of the projects in both Mastuj and Booni. The projects are being built by Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) under the European Union-funded Peace Project.
Speaking as chief guest in Booni, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mehmood Khan appreciated the people’s commitment to the development process at the grassroots level. “The motivation is key to the success of such initiatives,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamsur Rehman, local activists, appreciated the SRSP for initiating the project.“We have been striving to build the 500 kilowatts power project since long. We thank the SRSP for extending us a helping hand to materialise it,” he added.
A power house of 700 kilowatts was inaugurated in Mastuj as well. The local elders including Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk and Qazi Jamaluddin spoke on the occasion. They lauded the European Union and SRSP for launching the project.Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer SRSP Masoodul Mulk said that his organisation would continue to support local initiatives.
