COAS confirms death to 10 terrorists
RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday confirmed death sentences awarded to 10 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, including those who killed renowned QawwalAmjad Farid Sabri.
The convicts were also involved in the killing of innocent civilians and attacking Pearl Continental Hotel Peshawar as well as law enforcement agencies/armed forces of Pakistan. On the whole, they were involved in killing 62 persons including five civilians, 11 police officials and 46 Frontier Constabulary/armed forces personnel. Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts.
Detail of each case is as follows.
1. Muhammad Ishaq s/o Muhammad Ibrahim and Muhammad Asim s/o Abdul Rehman: Both the convicts were members of proscribed organisation. They were involved in killing of a renowned Qawwal Amjad Farid Sabri and attacking the law enforcement agencies/armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of 17 officials. They were also found in possession of firearms and explosives. The convicts confessed to their offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentence.
2. Muhammad Arish Khan s/o Muhammad Aslam: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking the Pearl Continental Hotel, Peshawar, which resulted in death of four civilians. The convict confessed his offence before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
3. Muhammad Rafique s/o Hameed Khan: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Yousaf, Assistant District Officer (Frontier Constabulary) Karim Khan, Naib Subedar Fazal Wahid, Naib Subedar Muhammad Fayaz along with 16 soldiers and injuries to three other soldiers. He was also involved in the abduction of civilian Muhammad Ali for ransom. The convict confessed to his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
4. Habibur Rehman s/o Khoba Gul: The convict was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Abbas along with three soldiers and injuries to 15 others. He was also involved in collecting funds for the terrorist activities. The convict confessed his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
5. Muhammad Fayyaz s/o Gul Faraz: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Fateh Muhammad, Havaldar Pervez Iqbal, Havaldar Basharat Ali, Police Constable Saleem Khan and four other soldiers. The convict confessed to his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
6. Ismail Shah s/o Nek Badshah: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in killing of Naib Subedar Nasim Khan and also attacking the armed forces of Pakistan. The convict confessed to his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
7. Fazal Muhammad s/o Abdul Mateen: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking armed forces of Pakistan which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Fateh Muhammad, Havaldar Pervez Iqbal, Havaldar Basharat Ali and five other soldiers. The convict confessed to his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
8. Hazrat Ali s/o Muhammad Ali: The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies, which resulted in the death of Havaldar Wahab Ali and three other soldiers. The convict confessed to his offence before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
9. Habibullah s/o Anwar Baig: The convict was a member of a proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies, which resulted in death of a police constable and injuries to another official. He was also involved in the destruction of three compact disc shops at Akora Khattak. The convict confessed to his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Besides, five convicts have also been awarded imprisonment.
