SUKKUR: Prince Mehdi Raza, son of the last ruler of the erstwhile Khairpur State, told The News in an exclusive interview that he had established a Sindh Biradari Ittehad, a non-political entity, to discuss the core issues of the people of Sindh and to get them resolved.
He said that the main objective of the formation of the alliance was to fill the vacuum which had been created by the collapse of the political system.Prince Mehdi Raza criticized the Parliamentarians and accused them of not having done anything for the people who had elected them.
He said that the alliance had long and short term plans and that it was very active.Prince Mehdi Raza accused the rulers of having bartered the sovereignty of the country. He said the country had resources in abundance and regretted that though the province of Sindh had been contributing 70 percent of the total revenue to the centre yet nobody was paying attention to the development of the province.
Prince Mehdi Raza said Pakistan was nothing without Sindh. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had invited him to join the party, but he refused. However, the prince said that Imran Khan should be given a chance and that he might do something for the people. Prince Mehdi Raza said that he had requested the Turkish prime minister to establish a hospital in Khairpur for free treatment of the people there, and the Turkish prime minister had agreed to do so but the Pakistan foreign office’s response to the offer had been pathetic and so the project could not see the light of the day.
Talking about the sectarian conflict, he said there was no Sunni-Shia conflict, but that the conflict was a concocted plot to further the hegemony of the vested interests. He said that the Taliban and the MQM had been nurtured by the rulers.
Prince Mehdi Raza praised General Raheel Sharif’s initiative for uprooting such elements and hoped that he would take even bolder steps in this regard. He said that the people had fond memories of the rulers of the erstwhile Khairpur State because the state had looked after its people and provided them with decent education and healthcare facilities.
