SHC directs Sindh govt not to harass FIA DG’s family
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed Sindh Chief Secretary, anti-corruption chairman, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), Advocate General, government of Sindh to protect the members of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General (DG) Basheer Ahmed Memon’s family from any kind of harassment. Manzar Basheer Memon, son of FIA DG Basheer Memon filed a constitutional petition through his advocate Shahab Osto pleading SHC to prohibit Sindh government departments specially Anti-Corruption Establishment not to harass or initiate any illegal action against the members of his family. Manzar Basheer Memon in his petition has maintained that his family is being victimised because his father as head of FIA has initiated inquiries and corruption cases relating to some influential persons belonging to Sindh province therefore in reaction some departments under the control of Sindh government especially Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has started harassing some members of his family.
In his petition, Mr Memon has quoted that in this connection his brother-in-law Iftkhar Memon, Executive Engineer of Works and Services Department posted at Mithi and his wife working in Social Security Department have been removed from their positions.
Mr Memon prayed to the SHC to direct Sindh government departments not to take any adverse action against the members of his family.
It is pertinent to mention here that FIA DG Basheer Memon’s services were surrendered to federal government in 2012 when he was Deputy Inspector General Headquarter at Sindh by Sindh government when he refused to fulfill the demands of top political high-ups of the ruling party of province regarding a high profile murder case and alleged corruption in purchasing of police vehicles.
Mr Memon then served as Deputy Inspector General in Balochistan, as Inspector General Azad Kashmir and then in 2017 he was posted as FIA DG.
SHC Divisional Bench comprising Justice Aftab Hussain Gorar and Justice Khadim Hussain Tunio issued notices to Sindh chief secretary, IGP, anti-corruption body and Works and Services secretary to submit their replies on April 11.
