Convict to be hanged in Gujranwala today

GUJRANWALA: A murder convict will be hanged in the Central Jail here today.
The prisoner, Iqbal, had gunned down his relative Muhammad Sharif over a domestic dispute at Wazirabad on August 13, 1996. Additional Sessions Judge Raja Abdul Qayyum had awarded him death sentence on October 19, 1998. On Monday, the jail administration arranged his last meeting with his relatives, including a daughter.
PRISONERS RELEASED: Additional Sessions Judge Abdul Qayyum on Monday visited the Central Jail and ordered release of 56 prisoners involved in minor cases. The judge also inspected the jail hospital, kitchen and barracks and found things in order.
Dacoit gang busted in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The CIA police on Monday arrested six members of a dacoit gang and recovered illicit weapons and booty from them.
On a tip-off, the police raided and arrested Rahman alias Pathan gang members including its ring leader Abdul Rahman of Peshawar, Raees Khan of Rakh Kiran, Yasin, Riaz, Abdul Salim and Zain. The police also recovered booty and illicit weapons from them. The gangsters were wanted in 79 cases of heinous crimes including murder and dacoity. The gangsters had also killed a citizen Shahbaz during a dacoity incident. Meanwhile, the police also arrested three members of Jamshed Ali alias Shido gang members including notorious dacoit Afzal. The police also recovered weapons and booty from the gangsters.
