CHICAGO: China will face reigning Women’s World Cup champion United States in June for the first time since snapping the Americans’ 104-match home win streak in 2015, US Soccer announced Friday.
The Americans will entertain China on June 7 at Sandy, Utah, and June 12 at Cleveland, Ohio, in their first meeting since China spoiled US star striker Abby Wambach’s farewell game with a 1-0 victory in 2015 at the New Orleans Superdome. US women own a 34-9 with 13 drawn record against China, but the nine wins represent the second-most by any rival against the Americans, trailing only the 19 wins by Norway.
The Americans beat China 2-1 in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics final and in a penalty shootout to decide the 1999 Women’s World Cup.
