PHC wants application about non-practicing lawyers decided
HARIPUR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC), Abbottabad Bench, has directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council executive chairman to decide the application about non-practicing lawyers strictly in accordance with the law and rules before the upcoming bar elections.
As per details, petitioner Akhtar Nawaz Khan Advocate through his counsel Hafiz Kala Khan Advocate moved an application to the Peshawar High Court, Abbottabad Bench, under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
He stated that casting of votes by non-practicing lawyers who were engaged in profitable businesses and of those female lawyers who have been married and residing out of district were illegal and unlawful.
The petitioner prayed that respondents, which include chairman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, executive chairman, Bar Council KP and Secretary KP Bar Council, despite repeated requests did not take action on the application be directed for the exclusion of names of non-practicing lawyers of district Haripur before the district bar election.
The annual election of district bar councils was scheduled to be held on March 31 across the province.
