ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Monday decided to conduct complaint verification against former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and officers of the Establishment Division in the case of alleged illegal appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Mukhtar Ahmed.
The Billion Tree Tsunami project also come under the NAB radar and it was decided to conduct complaint verification of alleged corruption in the project. The decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal at the NAB headquarters here.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the ongoing inquiries/investigations being conducted against illegal private and cooperative housing societies and the steps taken by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) against these societies which have mushroomed in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The meeting focused on reviewing progress in return of money to the affected people looted by the societies. The chairman directed the director general NAB, Rawalpindi, to ensure the return of looted money to the affected people.
The DG Rawalpindi was also directed to conclude the ongoing inquiries/investigations against the illegal housing societies as early as possible so that corrupt people could be put on trial and punished as per law.
The chairman directed the CDA, RDA and ICT to timely inform the people about the illegality of various private cooperative housing societies working in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, so that they could be saved from wasting their hard-earned money.
Justice Javed directed the CDA, RDA and ICT to upload the details of illegal private and cooperative housing societies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on their websites. He also advised the people to invest their hard-earned savings only in legal housing societies after complete verification.
