Tree plantation launched in Chitral
CHITRAL: The Forest Department on Tuesday formally launched the spring tree planation campaign in the district.
Colonel Rizwan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Minhasuddin launched the campaign by planting saplings at the Government College Chitral.
Later, speaking at a ceremony in this regard, the speakers said that trees and plants were necessary for healthy environment and helped prevent natural or man-made calamities.
They appreciated the Billion Tree Tsunami project of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, saying the government under the scheme planted 40 percent new saplings while dropped the seeds of another 60 percent plants from helicopters in forests and hilly areas.
The speakers said that such initiatives were needed to grow more trees to not only counter deforestation but also help in creating clean and healthy environment.
