Punjab governor addresses diplomats: Pakistan wants ideal ties with neighbouring countries, says Rajwana

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana has said Pakistan is a peace-loving country and wants solution to all problems through negotiations and dialogue.

Addressing diplomats from 20 different countries of Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad, who called on him here at Governor’s House on Thursday, the governor said: “As a nation, we intend to have ideal relations with our neighbouring countries including India, which are based on mutual respect and equality.” He said Pakistan greatly values its relations with the 19 countries of participating foreign diplomats and is committed to developing stronger ties with these countries in diverse fields. At the bilateral level, Pakistan favours tangible initiatives to promote closer cooperation with these countries in diverse fields, including industry, agriculture, banking, information technology and human resource development, Pakistan seeks to consolidate cooperation with these countries in the economic, technical and educational fields under the spirit of South-South Cooperation, the governor said.

Highlighting achievements of the present government, Rafique Rajwana said Pakistan has developed an extensive educational system and many new institutions of higher learning have opened in the recent past. Pakistan believes in enhancing technical and educational capacity of these countries through its Special Technical Assistance Programme (STAP). He said Pakistan has made commendable progress in agro-research sector and is in a position to share its expertise with some of these countries in a number of areas.
